Broadway To The People

What is "Off-Broadway?"

The term "Off-Broadway" refers to theaters in New York City that have approximately 100-499 seats, and the productions that are shown in those theaters. To be considered "Off-Broadway," a theater or production also has to adhere to certain trade union contracts. This is defined by the League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers. In addition to "Off-Broadway," New York also has many "Off-Off-Broadway" productions throughout the city. These may be productions that are not defined by the League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Productions as "Off-Broadway," but are still high-calibre works in one of the greatest performing arts cities in the world. For our purposes, we'll use the term "Off-Broadway" more broadly to include certain "Off-Off-Broadway" productions as well.

What are some "Off-Broadway" Theaters?
